Hello everyone and welcome to the 14th edition of our weekly Travel Photography Competition. This week we’ve got another selection of breathtaking shots sent to our Facebook page by both amateur and professional photographers travelling all around the globe.
What’s interesting is that two of the winning photos this week show lightning. We will start by this amazing shot sent by Vagelis Pikoulas. It was taken in Porto Germeno, Greece which is Vagelis’ favourite photo spot.
In the history of our Travel Photography Competition it’s never happened before that, out of three winning photos, two were sent by the same photographer, but there you go! The second photo with the biggest amount of “likes” was also sent by Vagelis. It only shows his great photographic skills which are widely appreciated by our Facebook followers. I should also mention that Vagelis is a regular winner. Vagelis, is it your personal mission to try to win all our competition? :)
The second winning picture was taken at Mount Kithaironas, Attiki, Greece. With an elevation of 1,409 m, it’s the highest point of Kithairon, the mostly limestone mountain range located in central Greece. The range was the scene of many events in Greek mythology and was especially sacred to Dionysus.
And the last winning photo, also of a lightning bolt, was taken near Lamesa, Texas. Jerry Cotten, who took this photo, told us that he “sees storm chasers in this area fairly often. The landscape in west Texas is flat and mostly treeless, so it is a popular area for storm chasers because you can see the storms for miles.”
Although Jerry is an amateur photographer, his work has been published about 30 times in “Texas Highways” and “Texas Parks & Wildlife” magazines. He’s also won our Travel Photography Comperirion – week 9. Congratulations!
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you nice end of the weekend!
