Hello everyone and welcome to the Christmas edition of our weekly Travel Photography Competition! Are you all in the festive mood already? Where are you off to this Xmas?
Hitch-Hikers’ Handbook are shortly leaving Barcelona to spend their holidays in London, but before we hit the road, we couldn’t forget about these beautiful pictures sent to our Facebook page by our contributing photographers scattered all round the globe. This week we present photos published between 9th and 16th November.
The first winning photo was taken near Rome, Italy by Robert Traynor. Most of us travel to the Eternal City for its unique monuments but who would have thought, you could find such beautiful landscapes around as well?
Robert, who took this photo, is only 16 years old and we congratulate him all the more for the victory! Visit his Facebook page RT Photography for more stunning shots!
The next winning photo shows a stunning sunset at Langkawi Island, Malaysia. Langkawi is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, located 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi Island) is by far the largest, with a population of over 64,000 people. The island has been given World Geopark status by UNESCO.
This lovely shot was sent by Jason Choong, a Malay photographer, food blogger and a BodyPump instructor.
And the last photo in this week’s selection was taken at the small fishing town of Siglufjörður in northern Iceland. The town, which grew on the herring industry reached its peak in 1950’s when it was populated by over 3000 people. Now, when the herring are gone, the town has only 1200 people prepared to live in its coarse northern climate. Despite the weather, it looks like a beautiful place to live, anyhow!
This great shot was sent by our Iceland-based and regular-winning photographer Fróði Brinks. To see more of his beautiful photos, visit his Facebook page Fr brinks photography, his Flickr photostream and our past competitions: week 5, week 6, week 8 and week 12.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you nice end of the weekend!
