Travel Photography Competition – week 27

Welcome to the 27th edition of our Travel Photography Competition in which we show you the final selection of photos sent to our Facebook page by our contributing photographers in 2012. This week we’re reviewing photos published between 26th and 31st December 2012.

The first winning photo shows aerial view of the Niagara Falls. The Falls are located on the international border between the U.S. state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario. They consist of three different waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The total height of Niagara Falls is 167 ft (51 m).

Peter Oshkai - Aerial view of the Niagara Falls

This great shot, showing the size and power of the cascading water, was sent by Peter Oshkai, a photographer based in British Columbia, Canada. To buy his work visit his website.

The second great photo in this week’s selection was taken in the small fishing town of Siglufjörður, Iceland. The town, which grew on the back of the herring industry reached its peak in the 1950′s when it was populated by over 3000 people. Now, when the herring are gone, the town has only 1200 people prepared to live in its coarse northern climate. Despite the weather, it looks like a beautiful place to live, anyhow!

Fr brinks photography - Siglufjordur, Iceland

This great shot was sent by our Iceland-based photographer Fróði Brinks. To see more of his beautiful photos, visit his Facebook page Fr brinks photography.

And the last winning photo of 2012 shows Cumberland Falls, Kentucky, USA. This waterfall, which is the central feature of Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, is sometimes called Little Niagara, the Niagara of the South. On clear nights or under a full moon, a lunar rainbow is sometimes formed by the mist rising from the falls.

Ryan Cusentino - Cumberland Falls, Kentucky, USA

This great show was sent by Ryan Cusentino, which has sent us some great shots of Lake Michigan and the Tahquamenon Falls.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you nice end of the weekend!
