Travel Photography Competition – week 35

Happy Easter everyone and welcome to the holiday edition of our weekly Travel Photography Competition. This week we’ll show you four lovely photos which were the most popular on our Facebook page between 25th February and 4th March.

Every week we get lots of lovely shots sent by our contributing photographers from all around the world. This week the four winning shots come from Vietnam, Portugal, East Timor and the UK.

Let’s start our competition with this lovely black and white photo showing the Japanese Covered Bridge in Hoi An, Vietnam. This beautiful bridge, built in the 1590s, is a great example of Japanese architecture from that period and one of the symbols of Hoi An. It was built with a roof, so that it could be used as a shelter from the scorching sun or heavy tropical rain. Inside the bridge you can find the temple of Tran Vo Bac De, the god of weather.

Hoi An is a town located in the South Central Coast region of Vietnam. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its well-preserved architecture which showcases a typical South-east Asian trading port dating back to the 15th century. Also in our opinion Hoi An is one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam.

The second winner this week is another black and white picture, this time taken in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. Gaia is located to the south of the city of Porto, on the other side of the Douro River. Gaia, along with Porto, is famous for its “caves” where the world famous Port wine is stored and matured.

Manuel Meneses - Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

This stunning shot was sent by Manuel Meneses from Porto, one of our most active contributors. If you like his work,  you shouldn’t miss his Facebook page ManuelMeneses | Fotografia.

And the last two winning shots this week, with an equal number of votes were taken in the UK and East Timor.

This beautiful sunset photo was taken on Praia da Areia Branca, East-Timor. Areia Branca is a beach located in Dili, the capital and the largest port-city of East Timor. It is exactly what is says on the tin, a “white sand beach”, luring both local and foreign visitors. The city of Dili was established around 1520 and made the capital of Portuguese Timor in 1769.

Marco Ramos Photography - Praia da Areia Branca, East-Timor

This great picture was taken by Marco Ramos, who is based in Germany and Portugal. As he says on his Facebook page “Traveling and Photography is my life. And I love my life.” Visit his Facebook page Marco Ramos – Photography, if you like his work.

And the last photo in this week’s selection was taken in North Yorkshire, UK. North Yorkshire is a county in northern England, of which 40% is covered by national parks.

Hodan Pictures - Storm in North Yorkshire, UK

This beautiful picture was sent by George Hodan from Harrogate, the largest city of North Yorkshire. If you like his work visit his Facebook page Hodan Pictures and his website where you can download all his photos for free.
