Maybe you have noticed the recent irregularity in our posting but that’s due to the fact that Hitch-HikersHandbook are currently on the road, so don’t forget to follow our progress on our 2 month hitch-hiking trip across northern Italy and the Balkan Peninsula!
In this week’s competition we have not three but 5 winners!
The first, unquestionable winning shot was taken in Ilulissat, Greenland. The name of this third-largest town in Greenland literally means ‘Icebergs’ in Kalaallisut (I’m wondering why…). It’s located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle and it’s the island’s most popular tourist attraction.
This unique and adventurous shot was taken by Thomas Nørby Mogensen. If you like this photo, you will definitely like his other shots so make sure you subscribe to Thomas’ Facebook page Thomas Mogensen Photography.
On the second place we have two photos this week. The first of them was taken at sunset at Foz do Douro, Porto, Portugal. Foz do Douro, which literally means “Mouth of the Douro”, is located at the mouth of the Douro river flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. Foz is one of the most affluent districts of Porto and its mostly inhabited by the upper class. This is also where many popular beach-front bars, cafés, clubs and restaurants are located.
This lovely sunset was seen and captured by Inês Cerqueira from Maia in Portugal.
The other picture with the same amount of votes as the one above comes all the way from Singapore and was taken in its Botanic Garden. It is a unique place because it’s the only botanic garden in the world that opens from 5 a.m. to 12 midnight every day and does not have an admission fee. On top of that, last year it applied for the UNESCO World Heritage Site listing. Fingers crossed, it looks like a nice place to visit!
In the third position we also have two photos this week. The first of them was taken on Alykes Drosias beach, Greece. This beautiful place can be found on Euboea, which is the second-largest (after Crete) Greek island.
This lovely sunset shot was sent by Vagelis Pikoulas, our regular contributor and winner from Greece.
And the last photo for today, with a tied amount of votes as the previous one, was taken in Reynisfjara, Iceland. This stunning place is located near the village of Vik in Myrdalur in southern Iceland. Reynisfjara is a popular tourist destination due to its black pebble beach and extraordinary cliff built of regular basalt columns.
This lovely shot was sent by Fróði Brinks.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you nice end of the weekend!
