If you are new to our community, I will briefly explain that we’ve started organising Travel Photography Competitions as a means for amateur photographers to promote their work, as well us to inspire our followers to travel and discover new places. And this week we have some stunning locations for you to consider while planning your next trip!
The first winning shot was taken during the Perseid Meteor Shower and the Aurora Borealis over the Ice Lake in the Yellowstone National Park, USA.
The Perseids are a copious meteor showers associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle. The Aurora we can see in the picture was red, while “the most common auroral colour, a pale yellowish-green, is produced by oxygen molecules located about 60 miles above the earth. Rare, red auroras are produced by high-altitude oxygen, at heights of up to 200 miles!”, as the authors of this stunning shot explained.
Yellowstone National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s primarily located in the U.S. state of Wyoming, though it also extends into Montana and Idaho. It was opened over 140 years ago.
This uniquely colourful stunning night shot was sent by by WiredNomads. Jordan and Kaya are an interesting couple of travellers and we highly recommend checking out their website, not only if you are into photography but first and foremost if you love adventure blogs.
In the second position we have two photos this week. The first one shows the Krk Lighthouse in Croatia.
Krk is a charming little town on Krk island in Croatia and has been inhabited since Roman times. Nowadays you can spend quite cheap holidays there, camping on the beach and eating fresh fish every day. read about our experience in Krk here.
The second photo with the same amount of votes as the one above was take at Beachy Head in South England. Beachy Head is famous for its massive chalk sea cliff which rises 162 metres (531 ft) above sea level and it’s the highest in Britain. It offers stunning views of the south east coast but due to its height, it has also the grim infamy of being one of the most infamous suicide spots in the world.
This great black and white photo was sent by Mirek Valasek – Photography. Follow Mirek’s Facebook page for more examples of his talent!
And the last photo in this week’s competition was taken in Fira, Santorini, Greece. Firá is the capital of the Aegean island of Santorini. It’s a a city of white-washed houses built on the edge of the 400 metres (1,312 feet) high volcanic cauldron. It must be said, it looks breathtaking!
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you nice end of the weekend!
