Famous Gaudí house Casa Batlló open to visitors for free

This beautiful fairy-tale house is Gaudí’s masterpiece and it’s considered one of his most emblematic works.

The house was originally built between 1875 and 1877 by one of Gaudí’s teachers, Emilio Salas Cortés. Back then it was a simple classical building, which was bought by textile businessman Josep Batlló in 1900. Batlló dreamt of an extraordinary house and decided to hire Gaudí (who was then 52 years old) to have it redesigned.

The refurbishment works were complete two years later and the results exceeded Batlló’s expectations! Gaudí added balconies, made the unique wavy gallery and decorated the façade with a mosaic made of broken tiles (trencadís), so typical of Modernism.

The interior is truly magical and no two rooms look alike.

In 2002 Casa Batlló opened its doors to the public and became a museum. In 2005 it was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This outstanding composition of shape, colour and light attracts hundreds of visitors every day but now you can enjoy it for free! On 27th April, the building will host the Barcelona Showcase event. It’s an exhibition of modern art featuring over 200 artists. Not only will you be able to both admire and buy art, it’s also a great opportunity to visit this fabulous house for free!
